PET Information

 

Examination Date  : 21 and 22 June, 2008

Admission to B.E/B.Arch./BTech degree courses is based on the State level Pre-Engineering Test (PET) conducted  every year by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board Bhopal in Government Engineering Colleges; Private Engineering Colleges; Autonomous Institutions and MP quota seats in National Institute of Technology.

 Eligibility :

A pass in 10+2 scheme of MP Board of Secondary Education or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English securing 55% marks in aggregate. Compartmental candidates are not considered. Candidates who have appeared in the final year exam are also eligible.

Age Limit: Not more than 21 years on October 1 of the year of admission (relaxable by 3 years in case of SC/ST).

 Admission Procedure :

Application form and prospectus can be obtained from the Office of Professional Examination Board or any of the State Engineering College. Last date of submission of completed forms is in the month of January/February.

 Selection :

Selection is done on the basis of merit in the PET. The test is conducted usually in the month April/ May at 23 cities in Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow and Nagpur. Merit list is prepare by the Board course wise, which is then notifies in the leading newspapers/ colleges. Successful candidates are also informed individually.

 Pattern and Medium of Examination:

Test consists of objective type multiple choice questions in maths, physics and chemistry (300 marks each). Syllabus for the PET is same as that of Higher Secondary Exam. Medium of the exam is English. Candidates appearing for B.Arch course would have to appear for an Aptitude test.

 Reservation of seats:

Scheduled Cast, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (except Creamy Layer): Reservation of Seats have been made in Engineering Colleges declared autonomous by the State Government of M.P.; in Government aided Engineering Colleges; MACT, Bhopal M.P. Quota and Autonomous and Self financing institutions.

Reservation for military personals, freedom fighters, female candidates, physically handicapped etc is also available as per the rules and regulations of government.

NRI Quota Seats

The NRI Quota Seats are for Candidates whose mother/father is NRI. The Candidate should have passed qualifying examination (12th class Examination of 10+2 scheme) securing minimum 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths subjects taken together. Candidates have to submit their application in the form prescribed by the concerned Institutions directly to these Institutions along with the following Certificates:

  • Proof in the form of Mark-Sheet of 12th Class of 10+2 scheme or equivalent main examination having passed in first attempt. Candidate passing /appearing in the supplementary Examination are not eligible for admission.
  • Certificate from the Indian Diplomatic Mission or Chancellery or High Commission from the concerned foreign country should show that the father / mother of the candidate are NRI in that country.

Foreign Nationals / PIO's

Under these rules to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved all Institutions / University Departments running Technical Courses for engineering, architecture graduate degree, will be given 15% seats in excess of the approved admission capacity to admit foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin (PIO’s). These excess seats will be exclusively for foreign students and under no circumstances’ seats remaining vacant will be allotted to anyone other than foreign nationals of Indian Origin. Foreign National / Persons of Indian Origin admitted through Indian Cultural Associated Council or Government of India in the form of committee to AICTE approved Institutions will all be considered under this 15% limit. Admission in these categories will be done after inviting applications and preparing the merit list on the basis of the marks obtained by eligible candidates.

 

 Domicile Restrictions:

1. The candidate is a Citizen of India.

2. The candidate has been educated in an educational institution located in M.P. for at least three consecutive years during the five years period from the year of examination.

3. The candidate is a bonafide resident of M.P.

4. The candidate is a son or daughter of

  • An employee or a pensioner of the Government of M.P. or an employee of the Government of M.P. who died while in service of these State or an officer of the All India Services borne on the cadre of M.P.
  • A Central Government employee including employee of Defence Establishments, employee of Post & Telegraph Dept. or the Railways or an employee of a public sector undertaking posted and stationed in M.P. on or before January 1, of the year of examination till the date of admission.
  • A person settled in M.P. under any resettlement scheme sanctioned by the Government of India or the State Government of M.P.
